Academic Advisory Network

The Probation Institute’s Academic Advisory Network brings together academic expertise from across the justice sector to support the Institute’s work as a centre of excellence for probation practice. The Network plays a vital role in ensuring that the Institute’s professional voice, publications, and policy contributions are informed by current and emerging research, and connected to academic debate.

The role of the Network

The Academic Advisory Network supports the Probation Institute by:

  • Providing a strong link between the Institute and the academic community

  • Promoting the work of the Probation Institute within academic settings

  • Ensuring the Institute is informed about relevant current and emerging research

  • Responding to consultations on research‑related matters

  • Contributing to Position Papers, Probation Quarterly, and other Institute publications

  • Mentoring candidates for the Probation Institute Research Awards

Through these activities, the Network helps strengthen evidence‑informed practice, professional learning, and informed debate across probation and rehabilitation.

Governance and accountability

The Academic Advisory Network is accountable to the Research Panel and to the Probation Institute Trustees, providing appropriate oversight and alignment with the Institute’s charitable purpose and strategic priorities.
