Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Probation Services
The Probation Institute has been consulting and taking a hard look at the impact of increased electronic monitoring and artificial intelligence on Probation in England and Wales. Our conclusion is that probation can ignore neither of these developments and must therefore seek actively to influence both towards the purposes of rehabilitation. We recognise that quite rapid steps are being taken within MOJ with regard to monitoring in various ways and the use of AI.
We are posting two papers the TUC AI strategy and a paper written for the CEP by Professor Mike Nellis at the University of Strathclyde. Mike argues, as he has for some years, that Probation must engage actively with electronic monitoring.
