Independent Review of the Criminal Courts
Overview of the full and very lengthy report by Sir Brian Leveson who conducted the Review. The review recommends changes to the thresholds for jury trial and also considerably greater use of remote hearings in the Magistrates Courts.
There is tension between the urgent need to redress the unprecedented backlogs, particularly violence against women and girls and concern about potential prejudice against vulnerable minorities.
