Safety in Custody

The Howard League has reported that by the end of January the number of people dying in prison had increased by 15% over the past year, reaching 394 - the highest figure ever recorded.

Nearly 75,000 incidents of self-harm were logged, equivalent to one every seven minutes, while assaults rose by 6% to more than 31,000.

This online event, taking place on Thursday 30 April from 2.00pm to 3.15pm, will examine the reasons behind these alarming increases and explore what can be done to reduce self-harm and make prisons safer.
