Sentencing Act 2026
The Sentencing Act receives Royal Assent this week on the 22nd January.
We welcome the presumption to suspend short sentences and a stronger emphasis on community penalties. Also a requirement for courts to formally record when domestic abuse is a factor in an offence to improve risk management.
We cautiously welcome the "Earned Progression Scheme" which we hope will be closely monitored.
