Gemma Birkett City, St Georges University, spoke about the recent research on the use of deferred sentencing, particularly drawing attention to the successful use of deferred sentencing in Scotland and to the substantial decline over a number of years in the use, and training in the use, of deferred sentences in England and Wales for practitioners or sentencers.

Ellie McDonell, Probation Officer HMPPS, presented slides for HMPPS and for Herts Police, setting out how the Choices and Consequences (C2) programme operates in Hertfordshire and St Albans Crown Court.
