The National Audit Office Update on Electronic Monitoring

The National Audit Office (NAO) Update on Electronic Monitoring sets out the NAO assessment of HMPPS delivery of its most recent electronic monitoring transformation programme - introducing a new case management system, increasing GPS capability and replacing the existing curfew tag provision.

The update is prompted by the decision by HMPPS to cancel a key enabling project in 2021, and reports concern on the cost to date. NAO set out recommendations for achieving the key objectives. One of the objectives which we strongly endorse is that Electronic Monitoring should be led by user needs and integrated with Probation practice.
