Professor Loraine Gelsthorpe is at the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, having just completed a five year term as Director. She has past experience working as a social worker; her academic career has taken her into police stations, the CPS, courts and prisons and allied agencies, but there has been particular focus on conceptions of justice in the community, on probation provision, and on criminal justice for women. Loraine has published some 12 books and over two hundred articles. She is a past President of the British Society of Criminology; Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. In 2021 she was given the European Society of Criminology Lifetime Achievement award for distinguished contribution to European Criminology. Loraine co-chairs the European Society of Criminology’s ‘Gender, Crime and Justice Working Group’.
