Research Event: Ethics, Values and Diversity

The Probation Institute is holding a Research Event on Ethics, Values and Diversity on Monday 22nd June from 12.30pm to 2.00pm on Teams.

We invite you to share with us three important pieces of research on values on ethics, values and diversity. Perhaps more than ever at present we need to remember, support and re-enforce learning about these core challenges in practice.

Professor Rob Canton, Patron of the Probation Institute, will talk about his research with Dr Jane Dominey in 2022 on the ethics of care.

Ella Rabaiotti, Senior Lecturer in Criminology from Swansea University and former Probation Officer, will talk about her doctoral research on values in probation. Ella will examine ‘belief in change’, exploring how practitioners understand and apply it in practice, and the factors that enable or hinder efforts to support change through a desistance lens.

Ashley Swinford, Teaching Fellow, School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Portsmouth, will speak about her writing on “'Reflections of racially minoritised staff in the COVID-19 pandemic”.
